Arbor Day 2023 Native Tree Seedling Giveaway - 150 for the 150th!

Planting Native Tree Seedlings to Help Mitigate the Effects of Climate Change

Arbor Day 2023 Native Tree Seedling Giveaway - 150 for the 150th!

The Concord Free Public Library is pleased to offer the community the opportunity to plant native tree seedlings to help mitigate the effects of climate change, courtesy of the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library. We are working in partnership with Concord’s Highway and Grounds Superintendent to bring you this program.

We have a series of short videos selected to provide you with an overview and details for planting the seedlings. The first video is from the Arbor Day Foundation, the source for our tree seedlings, describing how to plant them. The second video describes Concord’s Climate Action and Resilience Plan. Following these are four brief videos by Diana Beresford-Kroeger, a medical biochemist, botanist, and author, covering basic tree care and tree seed collection knowledge. The last video is an informative TED Talk by Thomas Crowther, an ecosystem ecology professor, titled The Global Movement to Restore Nature’s Biodiversity

Seedlings available for pick up starting on Thursday, April 27th
at the Concord Main and Fowler branch libraries - while supplies last!

The seedlings are bare-root, about 6 to 12 inches tall, and will need prompt attention. We have 50 seedlings each of Sugar Maple trees, Tulip trees, and Redbud trees, for a total of 150 seedlings. We are excited to support the town in its reforestation effort, participate in the global effort to restore biodiversity, and help mitigate climate change. Please come by the library, say hello, and pick up your seedlings while supplies last!
